CUSTOM LAKE CABIN CONSTRUCTIONChelan, Washington

This project is packed with interesting building features. We used a variety of materials, such as stained fir siding, wood-framed windows, stained concrete countertops, and a large, wrap-around deck finished with stained and textured concrete. The cabin also features a heavy timber frame. Green Building elements in the project include geothermal earth tubes, use of recycled and reclaimed building materials, and LED lighting. “Working with Matt and Ben was a joy from start to finish. We had a challenging steep lakeside building site that other builders had turned away from. With his engineering background Matt was all over our project, full of ideas of how problems could be solved.

Throughout the project he brought new ideas and solutions to us. We were very interested in a “green” project which fit well with Matt’s philosophy. We incorporated radiant heat, an “earth tube” cooling system, a whole house fan, LED lighting, low-water-consumption toilets, and materials recycled from old buildings. That Matt is just a thoughtful guy is evidenced in all of the small niceties: daily email updates as to the work of the day, researching the cheapest LED lighting for us, dropping off samples of stained wood to our home to review after we got home from work, finding a way to ship our Craig’s List finds over from Seattle.

We had heard plenty of horror stories of building homes and the animosity that can develop with the General Contractor. Our experience was precisely the opposite. At the end of the project we were better friends with Matt and his team than at the beginning.”
